An appeal is being made to the leaders of the world's richest countries to prevent the deaths of thousands of mothers.
Organisers behind the Brighton-based charity, Maternity Worldwide, are calling on members of the G8 to highlight the plight of the one in 16 African women who die during pregnancy and childbirth.
The group recently launched Safe Birth Fund in Ethiopia, which saw the safe delivery of a set of triplets through the project, while the work of body painter Julia Laderman has featured in campaigns about the high mortality rate among mothers in the world's poorest countries.
Chairman of Maternity Worldwide Dr Adrian Brown said: "Death in pregnancy and childhood is the biggest killer of women of childbearing age in developing countries - despite strong evidence that deaths could be prevented with access to professional maternity care."
