Having attended the recent crowded public meeting at Downs Infants School, a number of things became apparent:
Onyx and Brighton and Hove City Council has underestimated the level of anger and the number of people opposed to the waste transfer station.
The traffic movements of a 44-tonne vehicle every ten minutes, 11 hours per day, going through an area already
designated as congested and highly polluted, appears to contravene the council's own plan to reduce congestion and air pollution.
The site offers no benefit to the community but Onyx, by its own submitted documentation, admitted there will be a "permanent, detrimental effect" from noise.
The numerous enquiries into health-related matters about this development have not been adequately addressed or answered.
The supporting literature residents are receiving seems to indicate this is not an independent application by Onyx but one supported by the council and an almost foregone conclusion.
It is clear siting this facility in such a built-up area would be a mistake and that oppostion will not cease and, in fact, grow ever louder.
