Doesn't Kim Meadows (Letters, June 29) realise Brighton functions every Sunday throughout the year except on the day of the London to Brighton bike ride?
It is not motorists who bring it to a halt but the 27,000 cyclists and support vehicles. And let's not blame the railways. The support vehicles come every year.
The problem is the event is now too big. It clogs up the whole of Sussex.
I appreciate the money it raises but how much does it cost the local taxpayer in road signs and policing, as well as the local economy. It's unlikely most of the bikers go shopping afterwards.
As for enjoying it, my bike stays in the shed. I would rather drive.
If the capital likes holding the London marathon so much let the bike ride be a circuit of London and stay out of Brighton.
