No pyrotechnics, flashy stages or dance troupes - only excellent singers doing what they do best.
It took some time to get in, as the queue was horrendous so we missed the start of The Bay City Rollers but the whole concert was still fab.
The Rollers' Les McKeown had lost none of his touch and if you closed your eyes, you could easily be in front of the original line up.
The Osmonds did not disappoint either, despite the absence of Donny.
Their highlight had to be "little Jimmy" singing Long Haired Lover From Liverpool, although we did most of the singing for him.
Crazy Horses and The Case Of The Lost Microphone were also excellent.
David Essex might be older, with lots of grey hair but those eyes still twinkle and he proved what a showman he still is.
The only slight disappointment was David Cassidy.
Although he can obviously still sing, the evening seemed to end on a flat note. It would have been better if he had been on first. This view was born out afterwards by the conversations in the queue to pay for the car park.
That said, it was a fantastic night. I wish it could be on once a year. As a trip back to our teen years, it was thoroughly enjoyed by all.
How many of today's bands would attract such a following in 20 years time - assuming they are still going?
