A watch belonging to Brighton-based Hollywood actress Cate Blanchett was auctioned to help raise £50,000 for a school theatre.
Elm Grove Primary School in Brighton officially opened its new theatre after taking more than two years of fund-raising, including the auction on eBay.
The children at the school were consulted on what to do with a space at the entrance to the former Kemp Town railway tunnel and decided on the amphitheatre.
Headteacher John Lynch said: "It is a great example of the school working together with the community."
Among the parents at the opening was actor Matthew Wait, best known as Luke Warren in hospital drama series Casualty.
