The writer of the letter entitled "A guaranteed solution to antisocial behaviour" didn't even have the courage to give his name and address (July 2).

Perhaps the writer would prefer it if we lived in an Orwellian society. He or she seems to think treating the symptom rather than the problem is a good idea - how old-fashioned and narrow-minded.

And with specific relation to the speeding comments they made, they are blatantly wrong. Accidents are not solely caused by speed - they are caused by inappropriate use of speed.

For example, driving at 30mph outside a school at dropping-off time is just stupid - and yet it is legal. But driving at 159mph on a deserted motorway is fine - or is that just for certain police officers?

Perhaps the writer lives in a different time. Maybe they still think boys should learn a trade and girls should go to finishing school, which would be a logical extension of their argument.
