Defender Dave Woozley says Crawley's remaining players have only stayed because they have not found another club.
Woozley is one of just five players from last season's squad set to play the first pre-season friendly against Millwall at Broadfield Stadium tomorrow.
The rest have walked out following the club's move into administration.
The players have not been paid for two months and are owed almost £18,000 in bonuses.
They are waiting to vote on repayment proposals put forward by administrator Rob Sadler at a creditors meeting which is due to be held on July 25.
Woozley said: "The players who have stayed are the ones who haven't got other clubs to go to. It is probably fair to say that if they had found another club, they would have gone.
"But at the same time, they have made a choice. If they didn't want to come in they wouldn't have to. They are happy to train because it benefits themselves as well as the club.
"It has been a weird feeling being back after the summer because it has not been all doom and gloom and bitterness towards people. Everyone is getting on with it professionally and it is going as positively and smoothly as it can."
If the majority of creditors accept Sadler's proposals likely to be 25 per cent of what they are owed Crawley will remain in the control of owners Chas and Azwar Majeed.
If they decline, Sadler could be forced to sell the club to pay the debts.
The newly formed Supporters' Trust, known as the Devils' Trust, want the Majeeds to leave and have put forward an offer to buy the club.
But Woozley says most players are likely to take what they are offered. He said: "Some of the guys have accepted the proposals. By the looks of them (the proposals), it seems the creditors are not getting a bad offer.
"That is in terms of a comparison with the alternatives, like what the Devils' Trust were hoping to buy the club for.
"It has been outlined that by agreeing to them, the creditors would be getting a better deal."
Former Reds goalkeeper Phil Smith is training with League Two side Swindon and played in their 3-2 pre-season win at Forest Green on Wednesday.
