Having friends in high places is always a help, and self-styled king of comedy Lenny Beige has plenty.
Lenny, the comedic creation of Steve Furst, has pulled in the likes of Trigger Happy TV star Dom Joly, Ruby Wax, Rob Brydon, Marcus Brigstocke, The Divine Comedy and Chas and Dave for his three-hour charity seaside special.
He's even persuaded friend and supermodel Erin O'Connor to abandon the catwalk for the night and man the raffle, which is heaving with celebrity booty.
Coldplay, Keane, Robbie Williams, the England football team, Kylie and Ronnie Woods have all made donations.
"I've worked in comedy for years, so I just asked around really," says Steve, explaining how he lured such big names.
"Unfortunately summer is never a great time - people are on holiday or have filming commitments, which is why Steve Coogan just pulled out. But the show is for charity and people always quite like that."
The funnyman, who annoyingly for him is probably best known to most as the ginger one from the Orange ads, created Lenny Beige years ago, but "I gave him up to concentrate on acting", says Steve.
"I'd say 1997-2000 were the golden years of Beige. I stopped doing him to concentrate on acting but now I want to revive him on a bigger, grander scale.
"I'm really just reviving an old idea. Everyone grew up with the seaside special. White Rock Theatre doesn't do anything in summer and it's an ideal venue - it's only ten minutes from my house.
"The idea is this will be the first of many gigs and we'll try and get Lenny on the telly again."
Beige's glory days culminated in 1999 with a series for BBC Choice - Lenny Beige's Variety Pack. Special guests included Terry Wogan, Gail Porter and Lionel Blair.
For those unfamiliar with the comedy character who has more rings than Jimmy Savile and a face so orange it makes Bargain Hunt's David Dickinson look anaemic, Steve sums him up.
"Lenny Beige is a showbiz monster half Bruce Forsythe, half Sammy Davis Jr. It's just frightening really. I think someone said it best when they said Lenny Beige is like Tarby, if Tarby could sing, dance and tell very funny gags."
For his stint at the White Rock, Lenny's guests will all take ten-minute turns punctuated by an auction (more celebrity wares) and the raffle. As well as the comedic heavyweights there will also be Brucie Lee - the Hong Kong king of karaoke, aka XFM DJ Adam Longworth - singer Mama Josie and Elephant Man Elvis, one of Steve's favourites.
"He's half elephant man and half Elvis. It's one of the funniest things I've ever seen. It's like Victorian freak horror show meets The Simpsons."
Money from the show will go to the Louis Barclay Children's Garden at The Royal Marsden Hospital and the Tiana Honey Watson Charitable Trust Fund For Children's Rare Diseases.
