THE Brighton Festival will be taking to the streets in May with an ambitious programme of theatre and music.
Many of the events are planned for the daytime in shopping areas and on the seafront where they will be enjoyed by thousands of people. But some are proposed for the evenings near the beach and councillors have asked organisers Zap Productions to think again. The noise, particularly by a drumming event near the West Pier, could disturb people living in and around Regency Square. Perhaps the one place where this sort of musical event could take place is on the site of the former Black Rock swimming pool in Kemp Town. It is no longer needed by Southern Water and is a big open area. It is well below a steep cliff and provided that the music is not excessively loud, it should be possible to hold entertainment there without annoying neighbours.
