A HOST of top names has been confirmed for the fourth Brighton and Hove International Jazz Festival.
The month-long festival starts on May 1. More than 150 musicians will be performing in ten different venues, with some of the events free. The line-up includes the Martin Drew Quartet at the Lift on May 1; Indian percussionist Trilok Gurtu at the Sallis Benney Theatre on May 8; and Larry Garner at the Gardner Arts Centre on May 13. One of the highlights will include U.S. band John Lurie and the Lounge Lizards at the Theatre Royal on May 28. Festival director Alex Easterbrook said: "The festival is now well-established as a major event in the jazz calendar. "We have a tremendous programme this year and hope to attract new audiences to jazz, as well as to delight devotees of the music." The event is being sponsored by Brighton-based American Express. Other venues being used during the festival include Sussex Arts Club and the Whiteways Centre in Rottingdean. Tickets and programmes are available from the Dome box office on 01273 709709.
