TRADERS in London Road are upset over Brighton and Hove Council's traffic management scheme. They say it is taking customers away from the area and that access is extremely difficult. The council has responded by saying it will try to improve access, especially to car parks, and make signs to London Road much better. If that happens, the traders should suspend their judgement on the scheme until after all the work has finished in June. After all, part of its aim is to gain more customers to London Road by making it attractive. It has suffered badly for many years by being clogged with traffic. Many of the present jams are being caused by major road works, particularly on gas mains under Viaduct Road. The summer should be a good test for the scheme. If trade is down and people are unhappy after that, the council should take another look at it.
