SEX and murder are to hit the screen in a new TV series set in Brighton.
Psychological thriller Killer Net, by award-winning writer Lynda La Plante, is being screened by Channel 4 early next month. The drama was filmed in Brighton over nine weeks last summer and stars Seaford actor Richard McCabe as a maverick detective. It tells the story of a student, played by Tam Williams, who becomes involved in an interactive computer game which encourages players to outwit the law and commit the perfect murder. Key Brighton sights to look out for include the West Pier, the Palace Pier and Hector's Bar on Grand Parade. The Argus also appears, reporting a fictional murder in the town. Former Take That idol Jason Orange makes his acting debut as a heroin-addicted disc jockey. Richard McCabe, who plays Det Insp George Colby, said one attraction of the series was filming on the West Pier. He said: "Over the years I've watched it decay and then I finally got my chance to go on it. It was hell! "Visually it was perfect, but the ammonia from the pigeon droppings was completely overwhelming. Even now, if I close my eyes I can almost smell it." The four-part thriller is the latest work by La Plante who wrote the Prime Suspect dramas and prison series The Governor.
