THE redeveloped Churchill Square shopping centre will be good news for Brighton town centre when it reopens fully early in September.
But what will happen to the main part of Western Road when several stores leave to go into the new mall? One clue has been a planning application granted for the east side of Debenhams. When the store goes to Churchill Square, this will become a three-tier restaurant. It is likely that other restaurants and cafes will welcome the chance of moving into Western Road where thousands of people shop each day. Retailers not currently represented in Brighton will probably also jump at the chance to be close to Churchill Square. From this autumn, Churchill Square will be the main shopping centre for Brighton. But Western Road will not be far behind and it is important for the town to keep it vibrant.
