Sussex homeless

HOMELESS people in Sussex are to receive a cash boost of more than £1 million.

The Government money will give those living rough the chance of a life off the streets.

Brighton Housing Trust receives more than £610,000 for its work with the homeless in Brighton, Hove and Eastbourne.

The cash will pay for a field work co-ordinator, three outreach workers and eight other staff.

The English Churches' Housing Group in Brighton and Hove has been allocated nearly £200,000, which will finance three resettlement workers.

Hove YMCA gets £158,000 to increase its housing advice and resettlement service.

Sussex Association For The Rehabilitation Of Offenders receives £90,000 for two youth homeless project workers.

Worthing's Stonham Housing Association has been allocated £56,895 for more hostel workers and Hastings Shelter Housing Action receives £74,000 for an accommodation worker and a part-time administration worker.

Hastings and Rother Bond Board gets £24,500 for a development worker.

Housing Minister Hilary Armstrong announced details of 254 schemes across the country receiving a total of £27 million.

The Government has also allocated continuing funds to other Sussex homelessness groups including include £10,200 for Sussex Emmaus in Brighton and Hove, £16,900 for Chichester Christian Care, nearly £30,000 for Crawley Open House, £8,700 for Open Door Eastbourne and £10,700 for Worthing Churches' Homeless Projects.
