John O'Hara Cup holders Burgess Hill booked themselves another cup final appearance as they beat Eastbourne Town 4-1 at Peacehaven.

Despite being depleated by injuries, they matched Saltdean's semi final win against the other Eastbourne team, United, the previous evening.

But it needed a bizarre goal to send them on their way after a quiet opening half an hour.

Derek Elphick pumped the ball forward more in hope than expectation and an outrageously high bounce caught out James Tovey to leave Darren Whitton a simple chance.

Two minutes later Town went close to an equaliser as Howard Stevens put Gary Brockwell away on the left and his neat shot struck the bar.

But it was 2-0 on 38 minutes when a corner was touched on for Ashley Carr to apply the finishing touch and the same player grabbed the third five minutes after the break.

Town did pull one back with a stunning left-foot finish by Brockwell after 69 minutes but they never seriously threatened a comeback.

And the scoring was completed five minutes from time when Hillians sub Peter Montgomery grabbed his long awaited first senior goal.
