AID worker Sally Becker has split up with her partner, Dr Duncan Stewart.
Sally, five months pregnant, and local GP Duncan, had been together five years.
The couple are still sharing their home in Withdean and the split is said to be amicable.
However, Dr Stewart is reported to be seeing another woman he has known for some time.
Sally, 38, called Dr Stewart "my knight in shining armour" in her book, The Angel Of Mostar.
Speaking at their home yesterday, Sally would only confirm that the couple had broken up.
She said: "Our relationship broke down over a period last year. We're still the very best of friends."
Sally's spokesman, Mike Mendoza, said: "I'm personally very sorry for them both.
"At the moment they are still living together in Withdean but Sally will be looking for somewhere else to live very soon."
Sally said she was shocked to discover she was pregnant when she spoke exclusively to the Argus back in December.
At the time she said: "Maybe this baby is the light at the end of a very long, dark tunnel.
"This baby was not planned, but now it's here, it changes my whole life."
Sally was shot in the leg at the end of last year while on a mission to evacuate 60 war-wounded refugees in Albania.
She flew home and had emergency surgery at Brighton's Royal Sussex County Hospital.
Despite constant criticism, imprisonment and red tape Sally was determined to finish off one last mission before suspending her work abroad while she awaits the birth of her first child.
After months of battling she finally managed to bring little Marigona Krasniqui to Brighton to be treated for eye cataracts earlier this year.
Dr Stewart, 54, is away on holiday and was unavailable for comment.
