FORMER Sussex fast bowler Adrian Jones wants to join the county's committee.
The 37-year-old, who had two spells with the county before retiring through injury in 1993, is one of five nominations for the vacancy.
The others are Nigel Smith from Hove, Henfield businessman David Green, banker Peter Miles from Caterham and Hove-based accountant Derek Stone.
The vacancy has been created by the departure of John Spencer, who joined the committee two years ago but is not seeking re-election.
Jones was often a fierce critic of the club's hierarchy during his first spell with the county and when he left for Somerset in 1987 it was after a much-publicised confrontation up with former coach Stewart Storey.
But since he was forced to quit because of a persistent ankle injury, Seaford-based Jones has been a regular at Hove while combining a successful career in sales.
He said: "A good percentage of my career at Sussex was spent experiencing the satisfaction of being part of a successful side and a member of a side driven to under-achieving.
"It's allowed me to learn the benefits of reality and potential and its role in building confidence and success.
"I believe that the experience I have gained is highly relevant given the responsibilty this position demands."
The election is by postal ballot and results will be announced on April 13.
Meanwhile the club are celebrating the recruitment of 600 new members compared to the same time a year ago.
Current membership stands at 3,600 and the county expect to top last year's final figure of 4,700.
