MURDER squad detectives are investigating the death of a seven-month-old baby girl.
Officers were called to the Conquest Hospital, Hastings, at midnight on Monday by staff.
The baby had been taken to the casualty department by ambulance in a state of collapse.
Doctors and nurses initially revived the child but she died later.
Detectives later went to the baby's home in the Hollington area of Hastings and arrested three adults.
They were today still assisting inquiries at Hastings police station.
Magistrates yesterday granted police extra time to question the three.
Apost mortem has been carried out but the results proved inconclusive and samples have been sent for toxicology tests to determine the cause of death.
An incident room has been set up at Hastings police station and a team of officers conducted house-to-house inquiries.
Forensic experts examined the flat.
Det Chief Supt Peter Kennett, in charge of the inquiry, said: "It is too early to say how the baby died and, therefore, what kind of inquiry we have at the moment.
"Our investigation is continuing."
