Little Riley McDonnell was last seen being driven away from his mother's home in Ashby Close, Sidley, last night.
Officers say they are very concerned for the child's welfare.
Riley and his father Stephen McDonnell left Ashby Close at 7.30pm last night.
They were in a blue Renault Laguna estate car, registration number R203 MDM, which police were today trying to trace.
Aspokesman said: "We are very concerned for Riley's welfare and we would urge the father to get in touch.
"Several inquiries are ongoing."
