CAMPAIGNERS who are demanding that charges be brought over the death of a 24-year-old student brought part of central London to a standstill yesterday.
Sussex University student Simon Jones was almost decapitated in the accident at Shoreham Harbour last year.
Although nobody has been prosecuted over the incident, which happened almost a year ago, the Health and Safety Executive is now considering pressing charges.
Around 60 members of the Simon Jones Memorial Campaign staged an hour long sitdown on Southwark Bridge near the executive's headquarters.
The group refused to move until the executive's directorgeneral, Jenny Bacon, agreed to speak to them and members of the Press.
Protester Colin Chalmers, who lives in Brighton and knew Simon, said: "When we met the director she told us they were looking into the case but couldn't say anything because it was still ongoing."
