A MAN was taken to hospital after fire tore through his home last night.
The blaze broke out at 11.30pm in a second-floor council flat in Highbrook Close, Moulsecoomb, Brighton. A discarded cigarette was thought to be the cause.
The occupant, a man in his forties, suffered the effects of smoke inhalation and was taken by ambulance to the Royal Sussex County Hospital.
The flat was badly damaged but firefighters stopped the flames spreading.
