TEENAGER Duncan McArthur has made a shock exit from Albion.

Manager Micky Adams confirmed: "We have agreed to release him by mutual consent."

Adams would not elaborate on McArthur's sudden departure from the club, which comes only days after he had been awarded a professional contract.

The left-sided midfielder from Hastings, 18 on Thursday, was among four youth team players offered one-year deals last week.

McArthur forced his way into the first team just before Adams' arrival.

He made his debut at Hartlepool in March, then figured twice more in the home match against Barnet and the visit to Plymouth.

His talent has never been in question, but he has been in disciplinary trouble during his time with Albion.

And McArthur's suspect temperament let him down on the pitch this season, resulting in a cluster of red and yellow cards.

Meanwhile, Rod Thomas could make a surprise return to first team action in Albion's final game at Gillingham against Rochdale on Saturday.

The former Chester winger has not played this year following hamstring and ankle injuries, but Adams revealed: "He is back in training and in contention for Saturday.

"I have told all the players nobody goes on holiday until they are fully fit."
