A SUSPECT package underneath a car which sparked a full scale alert turned out to be a carton of MAGGOTS.
The plastic box was spotted by the back wheel of a Renault in the car park at the new Crawley Leisure Park on Saturday evening.
Police started to evacuate staff and visitors from the busy site, which includes a TGI Fridays, Bella Pasta, Virgin Multiplex Cinema and a Hollywood Bowl.
But as people began to move out, the owners of the Renault returned and revealed the contents of the package.
They said they didn't want to leave the maggots inside the car in case they escaped.
Apolice spokesman said: "It appears the people who owned the car were keen anglers."
