THE PRINCESS Royal Hospital at Haywards Heath is to receive £150,000 for new facilities, it was announced today.

It is among six hospitals across the county to be given a share of the £115 million being divided between 149 hospitals nationwide.

Health Secretary Frank Dobson said the upgrade would mean major improvements for more than three-quarters of all A&E departments in time for the millennium holiday.

The Princess Royal will get £150,000 for a new nurse assessment area and redesigned resuscitation area with CCTV.

Hospital spokesman Stefan Cantore said: "We welcome the announcement that some additional resources will be put into improving the facilities at the Princess Royal accident and emergency department.

"It will make it easier for patients to be seen. We have become increasingly busy over the past few years and this is very important to us."

The Queen Victoria Hospital, East Grinstead, will receive £100,000 for a link with other hospital's A&E departments to reduce unnecessary travel for patients.
