Burgess Hill and East Preston were held to draws while Saltdean came from behind to salvage a point off Three Bridges.

Hillians' failure to beat bottom of the table Shoreham at Middle Road was the major surprise.

James Bird gave the champions a half-time lead as the home side appealed that the ball had gone out of play.

They also hit the bar after the break but had to settle for a draw when David Ayre produced a superb first time strike.

Shoreham boss George Parris admitted: "One or two of our lads said the ball went out when they scored, but I didn't think it did.

"We deserved the draw. We played some good football and created a few half chances."

East Preston were denied by a fine goalkeeping display from Paul John as they made most of the running at Hassocks.

And Saltdean were grateful to Leighton Allen's first goals for a month as they twice came from behind to draw 2-2 at home to Three Bridges.

Dave Armstrong and hard-working Ben Jones produced fine finishes for Bridges, who were looking for their first win since the opening week.

But Allen came off the bench to strike with a far post header, then a superb volley.

Tigers have taken just one point from the last three games and, while feeling his side should have had a late penalty, boss Glenn Burvill admitted: "Our final ball wasn't good."

Horsham YMCA were also adrift when Peter Heritage headed home for Sidley at Gorings Mead.

But Damian Francis's corner was deflected into his own net by a defender soon after and YM eased ahead when John Gardner fouled Matt Russell, allowing Rob Grim to convert the penalty.

Neil Vanson clinched the win after good work from Lee Butcher and Grim.

Jonas Templeman made it a great day for the Swedes by netting twice in Littlehampton's 3-1 home win over Eastbourne United.

The Marigolds striker, whose mother is Swedish, converted a penalty and unleashed a fierce strike from just inside the area.

Slack defending allowed Dale Seymour to reply before Stuart Sell hit Town's third with his first touch after coming on.

New Wick boss John Keeley enjoyed a second win in three games as Whitehawk were defeated 2-1 at Crabtree Park.

Keeley, who changed things round at the back, admitted: "We played a sweeper system and we were all over the shop for 20 minutes.

"But I'm really pleased with how the lads battled and we played some good stuff as well."

Gavin Geddes's curler and 20 yard George Smith blast gave Wick the points.

Kevin Chambers maintained Portfield's excellent run with the winner at Redhill.

Zak Newman had earlier converted a penalty to cancel out an own goal.

Steve Hill gave Selsey an early lead at Ringmer, for whom Syd Harman replied, while Eastbourne Town fought out a goalless draw at Pagham.
