Two doctors celebrated their
marriage in Lewes - by kissing in front of The Kiss.
Mark Allenby and Paula Irving had to get special permission to have their wedding photographs taken by the Rodin sculpture amid tight security at Lewes Town Hall.
Friends say it is the first time a couple has been allowed to pose for their wedding photographs in front of the sculpture, which was banned from public view in Lewes during the First World War because it was considered pornographic.
But for Mark and Paula, The Kiss is the embodiment of romance.
The sculpture of a nude couple embracing is currently nearing the end of its four-and-a half month stay in the town on loan from The Tate Gallery.
Mark, a doctor at St Richard's Hospital, Chichester, and Paula, both 30, an anaesthetist at the Princess Royal Hospital, Haywards Heath, went straight from the ceremony at The Grange to the Town Hall for their unique picture session.
Organised by best man Christopher Thorpe, members of the public viewing The Kiss stood aside for the couple.
