Bottom club Shoreham made it harder than expected for Sports at Middle Road, but John Snelgrove's second- half strike earned them a 1-0 win and a seven-point cushion at the top of the table.

Wilson said: "To make it 11 wins out of 11 is a fantastic achievement, although you have to take your hat off to Shoreham. They made it difficult for us, but we pinched the only goal and the three points.

"We made a pact at the start of the season that we wanted to try and win our first ten matches. Now we've reached that goal, it's a case of taking each game as it comes. It's important in this division to get points in the bag early on and that's precisely what we've done."

It was a good day for the leading sides, with five of the top six winning.

Levelled

The only side to drop points were Horsham YMCA, who were held to a 2-2 draw by lowly Three Bridges.

Barrie Westgate and Matt Russell netted for YM after an early own goal had put Bridges in front, but Paul Green deservedly levelled for the visitors with 17 minutes remaining.

YM boss John Suter was disappointed. He said: "We were lucky to be 1-1 at half-time. We're not playing well at the moment in any area of the pitch. Our defending has been slack and our finishing poor."

Bridges' boss John Crumplin was pleased his side had continued their impressive run against the top sides.

He said: "It was a tremendous result for us. Our last three away matches, against Saltdean, Chichester and Horsham YM, have all been against sides in the top six and we've taken three points."

Matt Beard got the late decider as East Preston won 2-1 at Eastbourne Town to stay second while Portfield remain in fourth place after a Kevin Chambers' strike and and own goal saw off Ringmer 2-1.

Burgess Hill have games in hand on the top sides, but manager Gary Croydon reckoned his team were below-par despite their 1-0 win at Littlehampton which came courtesy of Marc Cable's sixth-minute effort.

"I have to be happy with three points and a clean sheet but our performance wasn't up to the standard I'd expect from the lads. Our passing let us down, our performance wasn't up to standard."

Jimmy Beale's second-half goal earned Sidley a precious 1-0 home win over Chichester while veteran Phil Somers struck the only goal as Whitehawk defeated Redhill 1-0 to move into the top half of the table.
