The 24-year-old wing-back had a hand in the first goal as his Selsey side ground out a 2-1 home success over Wick in the last eight of the Sussex RUR Cup.
Hinshelwood's drive was blocked by another former Seagull, John Keeley, for Ian Ford to hit the opener.
Wick had just seen teenager Simon Clayton carried off with a suspected broken leg.
The game was held up for half-an-hour while he was treated.
Andy Johnson was then dismissed for a second bookable offence before Barry Rishman fired Selsey's second after a Steve Hill cross had been laid off by Matt Hurst.
Gavin Geddes cut inside to fire a superb solo strike and give the ten men hope for the closing stages.
Hinshelwood, who was appointed as boss on Thursday night, is hoping to bring in new players.
But he added: "There are a lot of local lads at Selsey and they all gave 100 per cent."
Wick boss Gerry Green added: "Selsey just about deserved it. Things happened which made it obvious it was not going to be our day."
Selsey now face Saltdean in the semi-finals after the Tigers weathered a late storm to beat Eastbourne Town 2-1.
Terry Cooper gave Saltdean a 16th-minute lead, only for Mark Pinch to level soon after, but Leighton Allen's third goal in as many games just before half-time made it 2-1.
In the second half, Cooper hit the bar, but Saltdean were indebted to some fine saves from 17-year-old goalkeeper Tom Hatfield as Eastbourne Town, spurred on by the excellent Matt Jones, finished the stronger side.
The Tigers have now won 15 league and cup games in succession, and manager Glenn Burvill said: "We didn't play that well, but we worked hard and battled, and that is why we have done so well recently."
Whitehawk progressed to the quarter-finals of the John O'Hara League Cup with a comfortable 4-2 win away to second division Storrington.
Hawks cruised into a 4-0 half-time lead thanks to strikes from Lee Mansell, leading scorer Lee Sale, Peter Birch and teenager Tom Graves.
Storrington hit back with two goals in the opening ten minutes of the second half through Rob Norris and Dean Leaver, but that was as good as it got.
In the league, Pagham's new management team of Graham Peach and former Portfield boss Richie Reynolds got off to a perfect start as Lee Stevens smashed a hat-trick in a 4-2 win at Ringmer.
Tony Ropke gave the hosts an eighth-minute lead but Stevens levelled a minute later and added his second 19 minutes from time.
Ringmer had Andy Coleman sent off for retaliation on 76 minutes and Pagham capitalised with further strikes from new-signing Ashley Martin and Stevens again. Micky Turner bagged a last-minute consolation.
Eastbourne United boss Micky French took a swipe at his club's supporters after a frustrating 2-2 home draw with Three Bridges.
Makeshift Bridges striker Graham Rashbrook squeezed home a 20-yard shot from a tight angle to leave United to rue two dropped points.
French said: "I just wish the crowd would get behind us instead of getting stuck into the players. In our position, we need their support.
"It's important for us to win our home games but we've got to tighten up at the back."
Paul Green gave Bridges a deserved lead but left back Dave Muir curled in a fine equaliser.
Then Chris Piper put United in front with his first goal for the club after fine work by his brother Richard.
Ring rusty Horsham YMCA were delighted to pick up a 2-0 win at Littlehampton in their first match since December 7.
Both goals came in the second period. Lee Butcher won possession before firing the opener, then James Bird hit a beauty from outside the box.
YM boss John Suter was just happy to get a match in ahead of tough cup trips to Saltdean and Totton in the next fortnight.
He admitted: "It was hard work. We looked like a side who hadn't played for a long time but we were worth the win."
Scott Langridge's first goal for Hassocks clinched a 2-1 win at Portfield.
James Laing fired Robins ahead but Steve Poulton replied after a good move.
Hassocks midfielder Dickie Fernley is likely to miss the rest of the season after suffering knee damage in the recent defeat by Saltdean.
Redhill produced their best performance of the season to crush Chichester 6-0 at Kiln Brown.
Ben Jones and Robbie Collins scored two apiece, with Ian Clements and Zak Newman, from the penalty spot, adding the others.
Manager Tony Dugdale said: "We went 1-0 up after only three minutes and we never looked back. We played exceptionally well and any side in the County League, apart from Langney and Burgess Hill, would have struggled against us on that display."
The shock result in division two saw leaders Sidlesham lost 2-1 at Broadbridge Heath where Paul Collins and Will Tidey were the marksmen.
