A POLICE hunt was continuing today for two armed robbers who escaped with a £26,000 haul from a jewellers.

The men burst into Heptinstalls, in Brighton Road, Worthing, just before closing time on Friday evening.

Two male members of staff were ordered into a back room and forced to lie on the floor.

Police say a gun was brandished during the robbery.

The raiders cleared jewellery from a display unit estimated to be worth about £25,000 and also stole £1,000 in cash.

They disappeared into the evening rush-hour bustle in the Steyne Gardens area of the town.

The detective leading the hunt for the robbers has appealed for help from the public.

Det Con Keith Fifield said: "This was a frightening experience for the victims. The robbery happened at 5pm and there were a lot of people in the Steyne Gardens area and we want to hear from anyone who may have seen two men acting suspiciously or using a car."

The robbers were both carrying black bags. Both were about 6ft tall and slim. One was wearing a grey fleece and the other a black bomber-style jacket.
