TWO bogus policemen stole cash from a teenager after posing as undercover detectives.
The incident happened on Saturday night when the two men approached three 15-year-olds on the lower promenade near Eastbourne Pier.
The pair claimed to be plain clothed detectives and searched a boy from the group. They took his wallet, which contained a small amount of cash.
Insp Malcolm Richards said: "I understand this kind of thing can be worrying for people, but I can assure them that any officer who stops someone automatically produces their identification which carries a photograph."
The incident happened at about 10.50pm.
Pier security guards were informed of the incident and managed to detain two men until the police arrived.
Insp Richards praised the security guards for their quick actions.
Anyone else who was approached by the two con men is asked to telephone PC Fuller at Eastbourne Police on 0845 6070999.
Police have since arrested two men in connection with the offence. They have been released on police bail.
