A HEAD teacher has quit after Government inspectors gave his school a damning Ofsted report and plunged it into special measures.
Pupils and parents were stunned when they returned to Seaford Primary school at the start of term to find
head teacher Collins Griffith had resigned.
When Ofsted inspectors visited the school they found no improvement had been made in the last 12 months.
The school was placed in special measures with regular visits from inspectors. An immediate action plan had to be drawn up to demonstrate what changes
would be made.
Mr Griffith, a member of Seaford Rotary Club, joined the school in 1991. Ruth Young has stepped down as chairman of governors. The position has yet to be filled.
A spokesman for East Sussex County Council said: "Collins Griffith, the head teacher of Seaford Primary School, has resigned as a result of ill health. Because of a poor Ofsted report, the school has been put in special measures. "The deputy head has been acting as head of the school since Mr Griffith resigned."
Brian Davies, head of Wallands county primary school, has been appointed as acting head and will be in charge of the school until the end of the summer term.
