AN ANONYMOUS donor has stepped forward and given two schools half the cash needed to put in a bid for technology college status.
The Causeway and Hazel Court schools, which share the same site in Eastbourne, have put in a joint bid for more than £1 million of Government cash and need to raise £50,000 as part of the deal.
But the schools were celebrating today after an anonymous well-wisher sent a letter offering to give £25,000 towards the bid.
The Causeway School is a new comprehensive while Hazel Court is a secondary school for students with severe learning difficulties.
Head teacher Peter Barton, of The Causeway, said: "We were stunned by this letter.
"This is an extremely
generous donation from someone who has shown
significant confidence in
the quality of our bid.
"The money will be used to buy more equipment and will reduce the ratio of children having a computer to one in five."
Hazel Court head teacher Peter Gordon said: "We are now in the position that for a relatively small amount we can achieve considerable benefits, both for our pupils and for Eastbourne as a whole."
