TWO armed robbers threatened staff with a gun before making off with cash from a bookie's in Brighton yesterday.

Witnesses said the two men were wearing balaclavas when they burst into Ladbrokes in Elm Grove at about 5pm.

Terrified customers stood back as the men demanded cash from two members of staff across the counter before fleeing into Elm Grove at its junction with Totland Road.

Police were last night carrying out house-to-house inquiries in the area.

The offenders were white, aged 25 to 30 and about 5ft 10in tall.

One was wearing a yellow cagoule, blue jeans and trainers. The second man wore a dark blue anorak and dark blue trousers, and carried a blue holdall.

Det Sgt Jayne Palmer, of Brighton police, is appealing for witnesses.

Anyone with information is asked to call 0845 6070999.

Ladbrokes refused to comment on the robbery.
