THERE was a glut of goals in the County League on Saturday with an amazing 55 recorded in ten games.
But it was in Chichester where the net bulged most, with Chi being hammered 9-1 by Saltdean while neighbours Portfield crashed 8-0 at home to leaders Langney Sports.
One of the most unlikely scorers was Saltdean goalkeeper Jamie Bryant, who converted a 58th-minute penalty as his side ran riot.
Bryant said: "It was arranged before the game. We had missed a few penalties recently and I thought I would show the boys how to do it. I think I'll be taking the next one. The manager can't stop me now."
Leighton Allen set the ball rolling in the 16th minute with the first of his brace. Shaun Grice later came on to grab a hat-trick, fellow substitute Sean Randell netted with his first touch and there were one apiece for Darren Longley and Warren Bagnall. Chichester also had Stuart Chandler sent off.
Matt Allen and Jason Reed both scored hat-tricks as Langney Sports crushed Portfield. Daren Pearce, with a penalty, and John Snelgrove, netted the other.
Just along the coast Burgess Hill beat Pagham 4-1.
Paul Martin's free-kick gave Pagham a surprise lead, but two goals in as many minutes from Marc Cable and Daren Newman made it 2-1 at half time. Andy Lutwyche then bagged his first for the club and Tony Holden sealed victory.
East Preston also won 4-1 with Clinton More scoring a hat-trick and Ben Milford heading the other, but it could have been more.
Russell Mason has taken over at bottom of the table Ringmer. But the former Horsham boss won't commit himself beyond the next month but he will be trying to bring in reinforcements this week after watching his new charges lose 5-2 at Horsham YMCA.
The contest was effectively over at half-time with YM 3-0 up thanks to goals from Andy Price, Warren Tilley and Matt Russell.
But on-loan Steve Hogg and Mark Harman rewarded a battling second half performance by the visitors, although Russell's 32nd of the season and James Bird made it a comfortable win for John Suter's men.
Mason said: "I will see how things go after a month.
"It's going to be very difficult and we need new players. But I know how to organise teams and if the players respond, it might help us pick up points."
Improving Littlehampton chalked up their third successive win by beating Hassocks 2-1 at the Beacon.
Full back Dave Fallon rounded off a sweeping crossfield move for the 32nd-minute opener and Jonas Templeman finished off good work by Michael Barratt and Derren Woods to net his 23rd of the campaign midway through the second half.
Luke Phipps got a late consolation for Hassocks.
Eastbourne Town came from behind to beat Three Bridges 6-2. Tyrone Raczkowski put the visitors ahead, but goals from Mark Pinch (two), Gary Brockwell (two), David Oakes and Lee Walsh gave Town the points. Phil Marsh netted a second late on for the visitors.
Whitehawk earned revenge for the previous week's cup quarter final defeat as they beat Selsey
1-0 at East Brighton Park. Phil Somers netted the only goal from the penalty spot after Brad Dougal had been brought down.
New Wick boss Glenn Houchen watched his side lose 2-0 at home to Sidley, with goals from Scott McDonald and Jimmy Watson deciding the issue.
