Micky Adams is mulling over a selection dilemma for Saturday's vital visit to Exeter.
He must decide whether to give the experienced Martin Ling his full debut for the play-off pursuing Seagulls or stick with the youthful exuberance of Scott Ramsay.
New signing Ling replaced Ramsay in the second half of last Saturday's 1-1 home draw against promotion-bound Swansea. Adams showered praise on the former Leyton Orient midfielder's contribution to Albion's fightback, but he is also pleased with Ramsay's recent efforts.
The 19-year-old striker broke his duck by scoring twice in the 5-2 victory against Macclesfield and he has brought the best out of the back-to-form Gary Hart.
"Scott has done ever so well of late,"Adams said. "You have got to be careful with young lads and taking him off on Saturday was no reflection on the way he performed."
Ling, signed on transfer deadline day on a non-contract basis for the rest of the season, is eager to show he is worth keeping. "I feel I can prove I am good enough for a contract next season," he said.
If Ling gets the nod then Darren Freeman is likely to renew his partnership up front with Hart, who will be hoping to score his fifth goal in as many matches. Ling missed another chance to impress when the reserves' game at Barnet yesterday was rained off. Rochdale and Torquay drew 1-1 last night to leave Albion still tenth in the table.
Adams has now decided against requesting a personal hearing for his misconduct charge from the FA. He is expected to be fined for remarks made to the fourth official during the home game against Halifax on March 4.
Albion's next home match against leaders Rotherham on Saturday week will kick-off six minutes later than usual. All fixtures start at 3.06pm that day to mark the 11th anniversary of the Hillsborough disaster.
