Middleton and Bognor have been stripped of the Sussex Ladies' League title in bizarre circumstances.
Having already been declared champions, M&B were due to go to Guildford this weekend for the play-offs for promotion to the South League.
Lewes finished second by a point but it has since been discovered Brighton University played an ineligible player against them in a 1-1 draw. An appeal was lodged and Lewes have now been awarded three points from the game which lifted them above M&B.
An M&B spokesman said: "According to the rules, the league could have taken the point from Brighton, which wouldn't have affected the league placings or demoted Brighton. M&B Ladies are devastated and are considering what action they can take against that decision."
Neil Beglin scored twice as Brighton III made it a good day for the club by beating East Grinstead 2-0 to claim a place in final of the Sussex 3rd XI Cup.
