Micky Adams has accused central defender Andy Crosby of talking "a load of rubbish".
Adams insists the Seagulls could still make the play-offs, even if they lose to leaders Rotherham at Withdean tomorrow.
Crosby, looking ahead to the sell-out showdown against his home town club, told yesterday's Argus: "We have left it late, but we have got to win our last five games, end of story. If we draw or lose it's all over."
Crosby was hauled over the coals by the boss yesterday and his comments have prompted a stinging rebuke. "I have read from my one of my players if we lose or draw our season is over," said Adams. What a load of rubbish. Who is to say four wins won't be enough?
"I am not Mystic Meg. I can't tell you what other teams will do. To write us off if we lose or draw would be silly, but you have to say we have got an uphill task and I am not denying that."
Albion, six points and five places adrift of the play-offs, are bidding to become the first team to beat Rotherham twice in the League this season following an impressive 3-1 win at Millmoor at Christmas.
"We played very well that day," Adams said. "We took them slightly by surprise by playing three up front and attacking them. I am sure they will want to put one over us. They are certainties to go up and they will want to win the League, so I think they will come here to try to get three points rather than like Exeter last week, who were happy with a point and to sit behind the ball.
Adams is considering a change to his starting line-up for the first time in five games after taking off teenage striker Scott Ramsay and bringing on recent midfield signing Martin Ling against both Swansea and Exeter.
A calf injury continues to rule Darren Carr out. The match starts at 3.06pm in memory of the Hillsborough disaster. A minute's silence will also be observed before kick-off.
