I have just discovered two books published locally, by Queens Spark Market Books. They recall the stories of two West Pier employees.

Oh! What a Lovely Pier is by Daphne Mitchell and Deckhand West Pier is by Arthur Thickett.

They capture the imagination and remind us how lucky we were and hopefully will be again to have this remarkable pier to enjoy.

Were the Noble Organisations management to read them, they would realise what the West Pier means to local people.

I visited both the Palace Pier and West Pier (until it closed down) regularly during the past fifty years and retain happy memories of both.
