I wonder if the Government has considered the thousands of disabled people in the country who rely on their cars to get about, when it tells us to pay up or shut up about rising petrol costs?
People with mobility problems do not have the option of walking, cycling or getting a bus, yet more and more of their often limited income now has to be spent on petrol.
There has not been an adequate corresponding rise in disability benefits and the Government is also cutting back on the number of successful applications for these benefits.
This significant group of people is being picked on because quite often disabled people are on a low income or are ill and subsequently may not be as equipped to fight such decisions.
Going to a benefit tribunal is an exhausting, inconvenient and expensive process and the months or years of form-filling and medical assessments which lead up to an appeal could make even the most determined (and able-bodied) person give up in frustration.
