Recent comments on Newhaven being the best site available for the incinerator are misguided to say the least (Argus, July 5).

Is the theory that towns such as Bognor Regis, Littlehampton, Newhaven and Hastings should become social and economic dumps for the nearby, more affluent towns and cities?

There is still a high likelihood the county's new sewage treatment and disposal facility, the largest in Europe, will be built here and now we face having everyone else's rubbish too!

Why is Newhaven so uniquely placed for these awful developments?

Is it not remarkable there are no plans to site the incinerator in Brighton, Lewes or Eastbourne, all of which have large, disused railway sidings?

Why can't the sewage plant be sited next to Brighton Marina, where there is good access and plenty of space?
