A mother who worked extra shifts over the millennium holiday to afford a computer for her daughter has won a top-of-the-range PC from evolution.

Karen Fallbrown, 37, scooped the £699 Tulip Computers machine after she entered an evolution competition and survey.

She carried on working at Lloyds TSB in Brighton over the millennium break to make sure her daughter, Hollie, 11, would have a computer before she joined the Cardinal Newman School in September.

When evolution delivered the computer to her Telscombe Cliffs home, she said: "I didn't have an idea what to get.

"They use computers a lot at school and I didn't want my children to be left behind.

"I'm really surprised because I never normally enter competitions."

Mrs Fallbrown said Hollie and Lucas, her nine-year-old son, would be thrilled with the new computer.

Keith Perkins, regional sales manager for Tulip Computers, handed over the prize, which his company had donated.

He said: "It's perfect for beginners as well as experienced users."

The machine was set to be well used by the family. Mrs Fallbrown planned to try internet shopping and husband Jeff, 38, wanted to keep the accounts for his bricklaying business on the machine.
