I too had to take my cat to the emergency clinic recently (Opinion, July 11).
At 10.30am he was fine, by 1.15pm he was dead. As he was only six and a half, I was devastated. But I didn't begrudge a penny of the £45 standard charge I had to pay. The surgery has to pay for a qualified vet and veterinary nurse to be on duty, as well as overheads and equipment.
Mine was an unhappy ending, but there must be dozens which are not, in which case £45 is a pittance.
