Directors at Brighton and Hove Albion have so far spent £400,000 on planning for Falmer. If this is a decoy as suggested (Opinion, July 8), it is a very expensive one.

The final decision will be taken by the planners. Many mooted sites, such as the West Pier, Black Rock, Brighton Station and Sunblest Bakeries, would have been developed by now if planners had agreed to proposals submitted at that time and not sat on the fence.

By investing £400,000 of their scarce resources in the planning application for a community stadium at Falmer, Albion's directors have signified they have no intentions of shafting anyone.
