A website based on a Floella Benjamin TV show could get children as young as three years old using the net, according to its Brighton-based creator.

Based on the ITV Jamboree programme, much of the site has been designed to be used independently by young children.

Carl Hodler, creative director of Imagemap, the town firm which built the site, said:

"The idea of the new site was to give young children the chance to use the net with as little help from adults as possible.

"Kids can play the games there and stimulate themselves."

Mr Hodler insisted the site was not designed to be used by young children on their own for long periods.

He said: "We don't really want computers to alienate the parents."

One area of the site includes colouring exercises and educational information which parents can use with their children.

The rights to the Jamboree programme, now in its third series, are owned by Chichester-based XL Entertainment, which commissioned the new site.
