Heavy rain washed out the final day of Sussex Seconds' Championship match against Glouces-tershire at Bristol University.

Having lost much of the second day through bad weather, Sussex were hoping for a clear day and a possibility of a contrived result as they started day three 35-2 in reply to the home side's 189 all out.

But their chance of a fourth win in five matches and a third in succession were dashed by the deluge on day two that left the outfield underwater and the match was abandoned as a draw without a ball being bowled on day three.

The outcome was also a bitter blow for Sussex opening batsman Toby Peirce, stranded on 19 not out, who has been short of runs for the first team this season.

He was aiming for some time in the middle having passed 50 just twice in 20 Championship innings this season, and the last time he did it was nine weeks ago.
