If the men who attacked Shaun Capon had seen the bikers who delivered his fiancee, Bridie, to the church they might have thought twice about beating him up.

Bridie pulled up 10 minutes early to her traditional marriage ceremony on a Ford-based trike motorbike, ridden by one of the biker crew, known simply as "Nasty".

But despite the leather-clad appearances and roaring motorbike engines, the nicknames were only good-humoured and the wedding a low-key ceremony for family and friends.

Before the service Bridie, 19, said: "I can't believe it is actually happening, particularly after the drama with Shaun being injured. I can't wait to walk down the aisle and start our lives together as husband and wife.

"It was a real shock when Shaun was beaten up. I know there are supposed to be dramas before a wedding but we never expected that. We hope it goes smoothly from here."

Family and friends crowded into St Nicolas and St Andrew Church in Portslade for the service which featured traditional hymns and religious readings.

Shaun, 29, who was left nursing whiplash, a cut to his head which needed stitches, a gash on his left hand, bruised ribs, a cut on his back and swelling on his thigh, face and both hands after being attacked twice by the same gang on his stag night, managed to walk down the aisle without even so much as a limp.

Bridie's father, Jerry, 39, who suffered two black eyes when he tried to save Shaun from the second beating, proudly walked his daughter down the aisle.

After the service, Shaun said: "I feel OK now and I'm gradually recovering from my injuries. It feels great to be husband and wife."

The couple live in Brighton with their baby son. Shaun, a builder, was attacked on July 30.
