I read with interest the article about a bike crash on Worthing seafront in which a wheelchair-bound man sustained severe injuries (Argus, July 20).

The promenade between Hove and Brighton has recently had new signs forbidding cycling painted and other signs warn anyone cycling there could face a maximum fine of £500.

Yet dozens of cyclists speed along without regard for pedestrians.

What is the legal position of Brighton and Hove Council when someone is injured? Have cyclists been prosecuted for riding on the promenade?
