It is a shame Councillor Barnard is trying to make political mischief out of Brighton and Hove Council's efforts to help Hangleton Community Association revitalise its centre (Argus, July 31).

The trustees are working with the council to encourage more involvement and better use of the building. A recent meeting between trustees, a councillor, council officers and Hangleton and Knoll Project representatives made good progress towards these shared goals.

Councillor Barnard should check his facts before going to the press and help the community of Hangleton by working with others to ensure the association is fully used for the benefit of his constituents.

Why no trams?

Brighton is conspicuous by its absence from the list of 25 towns where tramways or light-rail systems have received the go-ahead in John Prescott's transport investment review.

Apparently, Brighton's bid for more than £30 million for transport investment does not even include a tramway feasibility study.

Continued reliance on buses will never encourage the shift from cars to public transport badly needed for Brighton town centre and will certainly not bring the environment up to a standard worthy of a place aspiring to city status.

Is it too much to hope Brighton's traffic planners will take heed of what has been successfully achieved in Croydon and act accordingly? We need a tramway feasibility study.
