Visitors and locals were treated to an explosion of colour, sound and action on Saturday night when This Rough Magic hit Brighton seafront.
It is one of the few towns where such a stunning event could take place and it proved no disappointment to the assembled crowds.
Everywhere you looked there was activity as a cast of hundreds performed around a giant oil rig.
It was one of the most energetic and visually stunning events of the year and proved once more that Brighton truly is the place to be.
Producers Fireraisers said they were trying to bring art to the masses and prove Brighton and Hove is at the cutting edge of creativity.
Hundreds of people at the extravaganza probably didn't know that but they still had a whale of a time.
The show brought a touch of magic to the seafront and proved we still know how to throw a good party.
Tunnel traumas When the Southwick Tunnel was opened in 1996 people might have been forgiven for thinking the designers had got it right.
After all, it took two years longer than planned and swallowed £60 million.
But since then, there have been frequent closures and on one occasion the lining had to be strengthened.
Now it is being closed once again, this time for maintenance work, meaning misery for motorists who will have to use a bypass.
The Southwick Tunnel was opened in a blaze of glory but that glory is rapidly fading with the latest closure spelling misery for motorists.
The Highways Agency, which is responsible for maintaining the tunnel, should find out why this showcase tunnel is closing so often.

Caroline has struggled against all odds to turn her dream into a reality and the bar will open this summer.
Good luck to her. She could find it's the Plaice To Be!
