I was sitting at home when there was a loud banging on my back windows from two paramedics who had not even rung the doorbell. I told them to go to the front door so I could identify them.
When I asked what they wanted, the reply was: "You have called an ambulance." Not: "Have you called for an ambulance?"
After several minutes peering at their bit of paper, they said: "This is 63, isn't it?" to which I replied, yes (there are big numbers on my door). Then one said: "North Lane?" to which I said: "No, this is North Road. North Lane is up there. Don't you have to do a street exam like the taxis?" She snapped back: "We are not a taxi - we are from Burgess Hill."
I have not received a letter of apology or even a phone call about this incident, which was way out of order and should never have happened. The health service is certainly becoming less caring and the amalgamation of the local and Mid-Sussex ambulance stations and services has only made it worse.
